Victim of Auto Accident Near Bevington Is Buried in Des Moines

Funeral services for Mrs. Melvin Johnson, Sr., of Winterset, who was killed in an automobile accident near Bevington on Wednesday of last week, were held last Friday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home. The Rev. G. L. Hufstader, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church, conducted the rites. Burial was made in Memorial Gardens, at Des Moines.

Mrs. Johnson was the former Naomi Pharo, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. H. I. Pharo, who now live in Des Moines. She was born at Harmony, Minn., on Nov. 1, 1900. As her father was a Methodist minister, her early life was spent in several towns in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. She was a graduate of Morningside college at Sioux City.

She was married June 25, 1922, to Melvin S. Johnson. They came to Winterset in 1923, and this community had since been her home. She was a member of the Methodist church, and the Order of Eastern Star of which she served as worthy matron for a year.

For the past seven years she has been active in the management of the Johnson Pharmacy.

She is survived by her husband; her two sons, Melvin Johnson, Jr., of Winterset, and Sgt. Owen Johnson of the U.S. army; her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. H. I. Pharo of Des Moines; a brother, Walter Pharo of Oakland, Calif; and five sisters, Mrs. Hazel Johnson, Mrs. Helen Elmer, and Mrs. Ruth Swedberg, all of Minneapolis; Mrs. Dorothy Brownlie of Mallard and Mrs. Frances Miller of Marshalltown.
