Mrs. Mary J. Morgan, of Peru, who has been a resident of this county for the past 57 years, died, Sunday, March 29th, at the age of 76 years. Mrs. Morgan, who was the former Miss Mary Jane Woods, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Woods, was born in Jefferson county, Indiana, November 8, 1854. The family came to Iowa in 1866 and lived in Muscatine county. She was one of a family of eleven children, three girls and eight boys, all of which have preceded her in death, with the exception of one brother, Hiram J. Woods, of Murray.
On March 20, 1874, she was married to John Wesley Morgan, at Muscatine, and that fall they came to a farm in this county,. Six children were born to this couple three of whom survive the mother: Archie, Samuel and Mrs. Ethel Robshaw, of Peru. Those preceding the mother were Rachael, Annie and Georgia.
Morgan died June 13, 1930.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Wednesday, April 1st, and burial was in the Union cemetery, by the side of her husband.
Those coming from a distance to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Woods and family of Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Woods and family of Murray, Elmer Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Joy of Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jenkins of Boone, and Mrs. Dare Gibson of Gilbert.

Mary Jane Woods, daughter of Joseph and Rachel Woods, was born in Jefferson county, Indiana, November 8, 1854 and died at her home in Peru, Iowa, March 29, 1931 at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 21 days.
She came with her parents to Iowa in 1866 living in Muscatine county where she grew to womanhood. She was of a family of eleven children, three girls and eight boys, all of which have preceded her in death except one brother, Hiram J. Woods of Murray, Iowa.
On March 20, 1874, she was married to John Wesley Morgan at Muscatine, Iowa, and in the fall of 1874 she, with her husband, moved to a farm in Madison county. To this union six children were born, three which preceded the parents index, Rachel July 10, 1878, Annie September 28, 1878, and Georgia July 3, 1881. The three children, Archie, Samuel L., and Mrs. Ethel Fobshaw, all of Peru, survive her.
She continued to live on the farm till the year 1914 when they moved to Peru, Iowa, where she lived until her death. She was a member of the Union church and Clarke county. Her husband died on June 13, 1930.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Peru, April 1, and burial was made in the Union cemetery.
