Mrs. Leatha Richards, a resident of Winterset for about 40 years, died this Tuesday, April 1, 1969, at Memorial Hospital here. She was 79 years of age.
Mrs. Richards was a native of Glassford, Ill., where she was born June 16, 1889. She was the former Leatha Saylor, daughter of Joshua and Sarah Glassford Saylor.
Prior to her marriage Mrs. Richards served as a clerk for her father in his general store at Glassford. On Sept. 7, 1915, at Glassford, she was united in marriage to Albert A. Richards, a young mortician. Following their marriage they operated funeral homes in Glassford, Chicago, Illinois, Corning, Iowa, and Winterset, retiring in January of 1960. Mr. Richards preceded his wife in death on April 6, 1960.
Mrs. Richards was a member of the First United Methodist church of Winterset, the Women's Society of christian Service, which she served as treasurer for a number of years, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, and several civic and social clubs of her community.
Mr. and Mrs. Richards provided a home during their high school years for two nieces, Mrs. Florence Richards Tigelaar of Chicago, Ill. and Mrs. Verna Richards of Minneapolis, Minn. They also provided a home from early childhood for Mrs. Pearl Richards Babcock of Evanston, Illinois. Mrs. Babcock is a half sister of Mr. Richards.
Additional survivors of Mrs. Richards include a sister, Mrs. Lucian Sprague of Glassford.
Memorial services, conducted by the Rev. Everett K. Burham, will be held in the First United Methodist church at Winterset, on Thursday, April 3, at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Winterset cemetery.
