Wednesday, May 2, 1945Pfc. Russell (Bus) Davis of Winterset was killed in action in Germany on April 13, according to a telegram from the War department received by his wife here last Saturday. He is the father of five small children.
Private Davis was 36 years of age. He was born at Earlham on Feb. 7, 1909, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Davis. When he was 8 years old the family moved to Winterset, and this community had since been his home.
He entered the U.S. army on Jan. 12, 1944, and was sent overseas last July. He had been serving against the Nazis in Germany with the Second Infantry division of Hodges First army.
He is survived by his wife, Celo Frances Brittain; the five children, William Loyd, Phyllis Fayne, Irma Berniece, Delores Evaline and Saundra Fay; three brothers, Cecil Davis of New Sharon, and Ed and Frank Davis of the U.S. navy; and two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Bainter of Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Harry Brown of Des Moines.

The body of Pfc. William Russell Davis, one of Madison county's World War dead, will be returned here for burial this week.
The body is expected to arrive here this Wednesday. Burial will be made in the Earlham cemetery next Sunday, with military services in charge of the American Legion at 2 p.m.
Pfc. Davis was born at Earlham in 1909, and spent most of his life in Winterset; he was serving with the 38th Infantry regiment of the Second Infantry division when he was killed in action in Germany, April 13, 1945.
He leaves his wife, Cleo, who has since remarried and five children, William, Phyllis, Irma, Delores and Sandra Davis.

The remains of Pfc. William Russell Davis, who lost his life in the war, were returned to Winterset Wednesday. Burial will be made in the Earlham cemetery Sunday, with military honors by the American Legion at 2:00 p.m.
