William W. Greer, prominent retired farmer of Winterset, died at his home here Tuesday night, March 4, 1947, after an illness of five weeks. He was 85 years of age.
Mr. Greer was a native of Canada, where he was born in Ontario province on April 8, 1861, the youngest of 10 children of Thomas and Sarah Cloughly Greer. In 1870 the family left Canada and came to Winterset, settling on a farm in Lincoln township.
He was married Jan. 13, 1877, to Esther Macumber. They lived on a farm in Lincoln township until 1918, when they moved to Winterset, which had since been his home. His wife died in 1928.
He was married a second time, in August, 1930, to Myrtle Fair, who survives him. Other nearest relatives remaining are nieces and nephews.
Mr. Greer had united with the Christian Union church at Ord in 1895, and remained a member there until his death. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Winterset.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. G. L. Hufstader. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
