Charles Moore, Sr., Truro

Charles Calvin Moore, Sr., 70, of Truro, died Jan. 9, 1995 of a heart attack at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be Jan. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Truro Congregational United Church of Christ. The Rev. Richard Harbart of Johnston officiated the ceremony with burial at the Union Cemetery in Clarke County. Visitation will be today, Wednesday, after 9 a.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Truro. Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m.

He was born Jan. 9 1925 in Ellston to Clarence C. and Bessie Irene (Shaw) Moore. He married Nancy Handley in July 1945 and later married Georgia Hess Jones on Nov. 1, 1980. He was employed by the Elevator in Truro and was a gas station operator. He was a member of the Truro Lions Club and the Model Lodge at St. Charles. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Madison Chapel Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother; stepfather; one son; one sister; one brother; and his first wife.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Georgia of Truro; two daughters, Betty Moore of St. Charles and Anna Merten of Altoona; one sister, Darlene Jacobe of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Robert Moore and wife Betty of Pueblo, Colo., and Frank Kirk and wife Shirley of New Virginia; three stepchildren, James Jones and wife Faye of Winterset, Janet Thornburg and husband Roger of Baxter, and Sandra Baker and husband Gary of Des Moines; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; five step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
