DEATH OF LON BANKER

Alonzo Walker Banker, who had resided in Madison county for 52 years, died Sunday, January 24th, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Arthur DeVault. Mr. Banker came to Madison county in 1876, and for the past forty years, has resided on his farm in Jackson township. Just two weeks ago, he was taken to the home of his daughter, to be cared for.

The marriage of Mr. Banker and Miss Martha Jane Snyder was an event of June 1879, and they were the parents of two children: Mrs. Isa DeVault of Jackson township and Mrs. Maude Hebbert of Glendale, California. Mr. Banker leaves his two children, and four grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Jacob T. Banker.

The Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the United Presbyterian church conducted his funeral services, Wednesday morning, at 10:30 at the Pitzer church, and burial was made in the Penn Center cemetery. The music was furnished by John Sawhill and Mrs. W. C. Porter, and a group of nephews served as pallbearers.

The Bankers were a prominent family of Jackson township, and only one son now survives of the Lemuel Banker family. Two sisters, have preceded him in death, Mrs. John Shoff and Mrs. Fred Niblo.

MORTUARY - Lon Banker

Alonzo Walker Banker, the son of Lemuel and Mary B. Banker was born March 24, 1856 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur DeVault January 24, 1932 aged nearly 77 years.

Mr. Banker's birthplace was in Guernsey County, Ohio.When six years of age his parents came to Illinois. In the spring of 1876 he came to Madison county and has resided here for 52 years, forty-one of those years on his farm in Jackson county (township) from which he went just two weeks ago to the care of his daughter's home.

He married Miss Martha Jane Snyder in June 1879. Two children were born to them: Mrs. Ida DeVault of Jackson township and Mrs. Maude Hebbert of Glendale, California. There are three grandchildren: Greta Marie Hebbert, Franz R. DeVault of Huntington, California, and Jasper Scott DeVault of Pitzer. A brother, Mr. Jacob T. Banker survives. Two sisters preceded him to the life beyond: Mrs. John Shoff and Mrs. Fred Niblo.

Mr. Banker united with the Pitzer United Presbyterian church in 1898. He has been a quiet, faithful follower of his Lord. He died in the blessed assurance that he was truly saved. The Lord called him in tender mercy and without much suffering. The community will miss him greatly. His quiet presence in the sanctuary was a benediction whose absence will be distinctly felt.
