DEATH OF RICHARD FORD

Richard Ford, a long time resident of Madison county, died at the Winterset hospital, early Monday morning, January 11th, at the age of 75 years, and 5 months. He became ill on Monday, January 4th, and was taken to the Winterset hospital. He was operated upon for appendicitis last Wednesday, and it was found that the appendix had ruptured and gangrene had developed. Mr. Ford has farmed many years in Madison county.

The deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Ford, and came to this county, with his parents, when he was 7 years of age. He was married to Mary Amy forty-nine years ago and they were the parents of eight children. Two have died and the six surviving their father are: Roy, Guy and Fred of Winterset, Claire of Des Moines, Mrs. Will Silliman of Towner, Colorado, and Mrs. Ellis Bertholf of Lincoln township. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. O. E. Cool of North Platte, Nebraska, and Mrs. Will J. Smith of Jackson township.

The Fords were a prominent Douglas township family, and of a large family of children, the two sisters are the only surviving members.

The Rev. H. L. Olmstead conducted his funeral services at Tidrick's Funeral home, Wednesday afternoon, at two o'clock and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Richard Campbell Ford

Richard Campbell Ford was born in Davis County, Iowa on August 8, 1856 and died in Winterset, Iowa Monday, January 11, 1932 at the age of 75 years five months and three days.

When seven years of age he moved with his parents to Douglas township, Madison county, Iowa where he grew to manhood.

On January 13, 1882 he was united in marriage to Mary Josephine Amy and to them were born eight children.

The mother and six children survive him. They are Mrs. Pearl Silliman of Towner, Colorado, Claire Ford of Des Moines, Mrs. Edith Bertholf of Lincoln township, and Roy, Fred and Guy of Winterset.

He was preceded in death by one son, Eugene and by a daughter, Mrs. Cecil Corwin.

He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. E. O. Cool of North Platte, Nebraska and Mrs. Will J. Smith of Jackson township and several grandchildren.

From the time he was seven years old he lived all his life in Madison county, Iowa. For the past fourteen years he made this home with his son, Roy, north of Winterset, where he was well known to everyone. To his life-long friends he leaves the memory of an unselfish character, to his loved ones the cherished memory of a kind and loving father.
