Royal Glen Compton, son of Everett and Effie Fry Compton, was a long time resident of Madison County, Iowa and departed this life September 30, 1985, at Winterset Care Center North. He would have celebrated his 90th birthday February 3, 1986.

He was raised in the Earlham area and after his marriage to Maude Utterback December 5, 1917 resided here until they quit farming and moved to California for over a year and a half. Upon returning, they made their home in Winterset where he was in construction and known to his friends and associates as “Pappy.”

Pappy’s philosophy was “We are put on this earth to help everyone we can whenever we can.”

Upon his retirement from construction and for a plumbing establishment, they spent winters in California until Maude’s death, March 17, 1967.

On January 9, 1969 he married a long time friend and neighbor, Blanche Wilson. They enjoyed traveling and fishing as long as their health permitted. Royal loved and was loved by his new family.
