Earl “Bud” J. Anker, 82, of Earlham died Oct. 18, 2006, at his home.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Oct. 22, at the First Presbyterian Church in Earlham with Pastor Robert Waldron officiating. Interment of the cremains will be at a later date at Earlham Cemetery.
Bud Anker was born April 7, 1924, to Roy and Irene Anker of DeSoto. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during World War II. Bud worked at Marquette Cement and owned and operated Anker’s Service in Earlham. Following retirement from Farmland Industries, he continued to be involved in the Earlham community. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 158, both of Earlham, and a charter member of the Earlham Community Building, of which he was a board member.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Frey) Anker of Earlham; one daughter, Marcia Hewitt of Urbandale; two sons, Gary Anker of Winterset and Jeff Anker of Littleton, Colo.; two brothers, Merle “Bus” Anker of Florissant, Mo., and Chuck Anker of Earlham; two sisters of Texas; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions in Bud’s name may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Earlham or Middle River Hospice in Winterset.
Arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.

Following high school, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in World War II. Bud also worked at Marquette Cement and owned and operated Anker’s Service in Earlham. After retiring from Farmland Industries, he continued to be involved in the Earlham Community. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Earlham, a member of the Earlham American Legion Post 158, and a founder and board member of the Earlham Community Building.
Bud devoted his time to serving others by always lending a helping hand. He loved woodworking and enjoyed crafting pieces which can be found in every family member’s home.
Bud was a loving family man and cherished his time attending activities for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bud is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carolyn (Frey); daughter Marcia (Greg) Hewitt of Urbandale; sons Gary (Nancy) Anker of Winterset, and Jeff (Marcia) Anker of Littleton, Colorado; two brothers, Merle (Bus) of Florissant, Missouri, Church of Earlham and two sisters of Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Scott (Jennifer) Cooley, Laura (Scott) Tryon, David (Sarah) Anker, Betsy (Derek) Little, Bailey Anker, Kelyn Anker, Sam Anker & Sutton Anker; and great grandchildren: Tanner Cooley, Briley & Carter Tryon, Aidan Cooley, Boston Earl Anker, Sumner Jo Little and Charlie Anker.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and two sisters.
Interment was in Earlham cemetery.
