Death of Richard Weems

Richard Weems, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. David Weems, died at the home of his parents in Webster township last Thursday morning, April 23, after an extended illness. Nearly two years ago he contracted what was thought to be bronchial trouble. January 10, 1930, he was taken to the state sanitarium at Oakdale, but his condition did not improve and he was returned to his home here early this spring.

The youth was born March 21, 1915, at Aimtra, Michigan, but he became an orphan early in life and he was taken to the Latter Day Saints children’s home at Lamoni, August 10, 1921. In December of that same year he was adopted into the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Weems. He attended the local schools and was baptized by Ann Smith in 1924. He took an active interest in the Sunday school work.

The Rev. Henry Castings of Des Moines conducted his funeral services at the Oak Groves church on Sunday afternoon, April 26, and burial was made in a cemetery near the Weems home. The Rev. Ward B. Tarr assisted with the services.

He leaves his parents, two sisters, Katherine and Dorothy of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Edward of Indian River, Mich.; and Perry at home; his grandparents, Mrs. Rye, Yale, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. M. Dean, Soldiers Grove, Wis.; Mrs. Annie Weems, Winterset; one great grandmother, Mrs. C. E. Clason, and other relatives and friends.
