MRS. I. E. HOLMES DIES AT TRURO HOME

Mrs. I. E. Holmes died at her home in Truro July 19. She had been ill with heart trouble some time and over a year ago was stricken with paralysis. Services were Thursday at one o'clock at the Methodist church in Truro conducted by the Rev. Moore; burial was in the Hartman cemetery.

Mrs. Holmes was Emma C. Cobb and was born February 19, 1865, near New Sharon. She came to Madison county with her parents when she was nineteen and after three years moved to Pocahontas county. Her marriage took place February 1, 1888. Her daughter, Mrs. Maud Reed of Truro, and five grandchildren survive, John, Charles and Robert Reed of Truro; and Helen and Ivan Holmes of Ottumwa. A son, Ernest Holmes died in 1926. Others who survive are her three sisters, Mrs. T. S. Daud of Des Moines; Mrs. Sadie Walters of Los Angeles; Mrs. Hattie Hess of Plover; a brother, Milton H. Cobbs of Emmetsburg.

She joined the Friends church at New Sharon and in 1898 with her husband united with the Methodist church in Truro.

Emma C. Cobbs was born July 19, 1865, near New Sharon, Mahaska Co., Iowa, and died at her home in Truro, July 19, 1932 at the age of 67 years, 5 months.

At the age of 19 she moved with her parents to Madison county and after three years there, moved to Pocahontas county.

On February 1st, 1888 she was united in marriage to I. E. Holmes of Truro, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Earnest L., who died in 1920 and Mrs. Maud Reed of Truro. Five grandchildren, John, Charles, and Robert Reed of Truro and Helen and Ivan Holmes of Ottumwa. Together with these she leaves to mourn her passing, three sisters and one brother, Mrs. T. S. Daud of Des Moines, Mrs. Sadie Walters of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Hattie Mess of Plover and Milton H Cobbs of Emmettsburg. Also several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

In early life she was converted and joined the Friends church at New Sharon, Iowa. In 1898 together with her husband she united with the M.E. church in Truro.

For years Mrs. Holmes had suffered occasional attacks of heart trouble. For about twenty-two months she had been a constant sufferer. A little more than a year ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis which left her in a weakened condition. She was a very patient sufferer and had no fear of death. On Tuesday July 19, at noon she quickly passed away, having maintained her usual spirit of cheerfulness until death called her from her earthly home to her eternal home.

Mrs. Holmes will be remembered for her loyalty to her home, the church and community. Her spirit of friendship and good will was an inspiration to all who knew her. Another good woman has gone to her reward. Those who knew her are the better because of her good influence in the world.

Services were held from the M.E. church, Thursday at one o’clock p.m. conducted by Rev. Moore. Interment was made in the Hartman cemetery.
