MORTUARY

Martha Evelyn Martin

Martha Evelyn Martin, daughter of Ashabell and Elizabeth Martin was born August 17, 1845, near Bonapart, Van Buren county, Iowa, and died August 1st at the home of her son, aged 86 years, 11 months and 16 days.

On March 29, 1865, she was married to Allen Broos Moorman, who died May 5, 1929. To this union five children were born. They lived on a farm for several years, then to Missouri for a short time. They then moved to Winterset where they lived for forty years. They moved to Des Moines in 1918 to live with their children.

She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Winterset where she was a faithful member, never missing midweek or Sunday services, sickness or extremely bad weather being the only causes for her not attending. Her church work and family came before all else. She was always doing for others, age making no difference. At the time of her leaving Winterset, her letter was transferred to the Grace Episcopal church of Des Moines.

In the fall of 1926 she completely lost her eyesight and for the last three years was unable to leave her chair without assistance, but only the last week was she confined to her bed. She did not suffer and with her face wreathed in smiles peacefully passed away.

She leaves to mourn her loss two sons and one daughter, Charles W. Moorman of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, C. E. Moorman and Mrs. Earl Williams of Des Moines, her husband and one son, Frank H. who died April 4, 1932 and one daughter Nellie Inez, who died April 14, 1893, having gone before her. In addition there are four granddaughters, five great grandsons and other dear relatives and hosts of friends wherever she was known.
