BERTHA MITCHELL SERVICES HERE

Native of County Died Late Friday; Funeral Held Monday

Mrs. Bertha Mitchell, a native of Madison county, died last Friday, May 5, at Corydon. She was 79 years of age.

Mrs. Mitchell was born on a farm here March 28, 1882, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ephram Vance. She was married Sept. 3, 1902, to Charles A. Mitchell. He preceded her in death.

Most of her life was spent in Adair and Madison counties. She taught school in Adair county for many years, and was active in the Hebron Methodist church when she lived in that community.

In 1943 she moved to Missouri to help her sister, Olive Boten, manage the Unity Tea room at the Unity school of Christianity at Lee's Summit. Later she moved to New Port Richey, Fla., where she made her home.

She is survived by a son, Raymond Mitchell of Corydon; a granddaughter; a great grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Olive Boten of New Port Richey, Fla., and Mrs. Emma Hopkins of Laguna Beach, Calif.; and two brothers, Leonard Vance of Kansas City and Mervel Vance of Laguano Beach.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Richards Funeral home in Winterset, with the Rev. Mark Weston and the Rev. Earl Kelly officiating. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
