Wednesday, November 16, 1949FRANK B. SEIDLER Killed In Fall
Frank B. Seidler, Winterset business man for nearly half a century, was killed in a fall on the rear steps of his home here Saturday evening.
The body was found about 9 a.m. Sunday morning by Jerome Wright. It was lying partially on the steps to the back door, and partially on the cement walk there. After an investigation, Coroner Paul Eggleston reported that the death was accidental, and was caused by a skull fracture. Mr. Seidler evidently had lost his balance and fallen down the steps while trying to enter the rear door, striking his head on the cement walk. Time of the accident was fixed at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday, and the body remained there all night.
Mr. Seidler was 87 years of age at the time of his death. He was a native of Saxony, Germany, coming to the United States at an early age with his parents, Charles and Johanna Hohman Seidler. They settled in Chicago, where his early life was spent.
He was married in Chicago to Charlena Hill. They came to Winterset in 1904, and Mr. Seidler entered the grocery business here on the west side of the square. He operated the store for many years, before relinquishing it to his oldest son, Stanley. After that he built and operated the Winterset creamery for a number of years. Recently he had been retired.
Mr. and Mrs. Seidler were the parents of two sons and three daughters. Mrs. Seidler died in 1932. The oldest son, Stanley, and one daughter, Gertrude, also preceded the father in death.
Surviving are one son, Walter Seidler of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Emory S. Warren of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. E. E. Byrnes of Marshalltowns; two grandchildren, Mrs. Patricia Lammers of Davenport and Edwin Byrnes, Jr., of Marshalltown; and two foster grandchildren, Richard and Esther Seidler of Des Moines.
He was a member of the Winterset Presbyterian church, and as a young man had been affiliated with the Masonic order.
Funeral services were held this Wednesday from Anderson's home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. C. D. Loehr, pastor of the Winterset Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
