Death of Florence McKee

Florence Ruth McKee, the fourteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. McKee, died last Friday, February 13th, at the Shenandoah hospital after a short illness. Miss McKee had been ill with the influenza and appendicitis developed. She was operated upon, February 9th, but the appendix had ruptured.

The girl is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McKee and Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Beach of Winterset, and she had visited here a number of times. She was born, December 30, 1916, in Melbourne, Iowa. Two years ago, at Easter time, (unreadable) transferred her membership to the Shenandoah church last fall. She was a member of the Church school, Tuxis club, Young People’s society, and a freshman in high school. She played the violin, in the high school orchestra, and a was a member of the string sextet and the string quartet. In addition to her parents, Florence leaves a brother, Dean, aged 10.

Rev. W. S. Insley, pastor of the Presbyterian church, conducted her funeral services, in the church Sunday, February 15th, at 2:30 o’clock, and burial was made in the Shenandoah cemetery.

Relatives who drove to Shenandoah to attend the services included Mr. and Mrs. McKee’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McKee and Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Beach of Winterset; Mr. McKee’s brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McKee and three sons; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McKee and Mr. and Mrs. John McKee and three sons, all from Winterset. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Beach and son of Galesburg, Illinois, came Saturday evening to Winterset, going to Shenandoah Sunday to attend the services. Friends here driving down for the services included Mr. and Mrs. John Spence, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Comp, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Carey, and Vernon White. Thirty-five friends from Sigourney where Mr. McKee was superintendent of schools for many years until last fall, drove down to Shenandoah also for the services.
