MRS. G. F. SAUM

Amanda May, daughter of Elizabeth and John Moore was born in Scott County May 1, 1855.

Her girlhood and young womanhood was spent in Scott county, 14 miles north of Davenport.

When 22 years old she went to Jasper county to make her home with her sister. There she met G. Frank Saum and they were married in 1882. To them two children were born, John who died just last year in Sioux City and Mrs. Byrd Sandusky of Earlham.

They lived on a farm in Jasper county for 4 years and then returned to the farm near Kellogg. They later lived for 4 years near Des Moines, and then 4 years in the city. After that they were for a number of years in Sioux City, coming from there to Winterset a year ago.

She united with the church when a girl and after her marriage transferred her membership to the Kellogg Christian Church. She has ever been a good Christian mother showing her nearness to the Master by her kindness to those about her. She has not been well for several months and in the later days of her life endured much suffering and passed away in the evening of May 19, 1931, at the age of 75 years and 18 days.

She leaves besides her husband and daughter, 5 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. N. R. Smith of Altoona, Iowa and Mrs. Allie Shaw of Davenport, and one brother, John of Springfield, South Dakota.

The services will be held in the Kellogg Church of Christ, May 21st, 1931 and interment will be in the Saum cemetery near their old home.
