JOHN E. STEPHENSON, SR. Rites Last Friday

A retired farmer and lifetime resident of Madison County, John E. Stephenson, Sr., died Tuesday, December 2, 1975 at Madison County Memorial Hospital. He was 83 years of age.

Mr. Stephenson was born June 2, 1892 the son of William R. Stephenson and Mary Villier. His birth took place in Madison County.

A veteran of the First World War, Mr. Stephenson was married to Blanche Jennings on April 20, 1919. She survives her husband.

Mr. Stephenson was a resident of Peru, Iowa. He was affiliated with the Methodist Church in Panora, Iowa and was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving Mr. Stephenson is his wife; sons, John Stephenson and Glen Stephenson; and daughter, Mary Agan, all of Peru and daughter, Dorothy Henrichs of Maxwell, Iowa.

Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, two sisters, Ida Ridout and Blanche Compton and two brothers, William and Elmer Stephenson. His brothers and sisters are all of Winterset.

Funeral services for John E. Stephenson, Sr. were conducted Friday, December 5, 1975 at 1:30 p.m. from the Peru Methodist Church, the Rev. Richard F. Hempenius presiding. Burial was made at the Peru Cemetery.
