Charles Mills, Winterset

Charles W. H. Mills, 84, died Aug. 24, 1995 of pneumonia at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were Aug. 26 at the First Christian church in Winterset. The Rev. Bobby Dickerson officiated the services and burial was at the Winterset Cemetery. Masonic graveside services were held by the Evening Star Lodge No. 43.

He was born in Winterset on Sept. 5, 1910 to Charles A. and Lora A. (Brinson) Mills. He married Grace E. Clark on July 17, 1932 at Milan, Mo. He was a lifetime resident of Winterset. He was co-owner and dealer of Mills Motors in Winterset for 50 years. He was a lifelong member of the First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church in Winterset and had served as an Elder. He was also a member of the Winterset Kiwanis Club and had served as a past president and charter member of the club. He had been a Mason, Evening Star Lodge AF & AM No. 43 of Winterset; Des Moines Consistory, 32nd degree Mason, and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He was a 1928 graduate of Winterset High School and had attended Drake University where he was affiliated with Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister, one niece and two nephews.

Surviving relatives include his wife; one son, Philip C. Mills and wife Joan of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Ruth Ann Sandrock of Burlington; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church or the Madison County Health Trust.
