William David Stephenson, 81, of Indianola died of a heart ailment Feb. 4, 2000, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 7, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Chase-McDonald Cemetery in Douglas Township, Madison County. A military graveside service was performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142, both of Winterset.
William Stephenson was born Dec. 18, 1916, to Frank A. and Maurie Nellie (Wilson) Stephenson of Panora. A Winterset resident for most of his life, he was a retired dock worker for Rock Island Motor Freight. William, an Army veteran of World War II, was a member of American Legion Post 184.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
He is survived by two sons, David Stephenson (wife Lorna) of Des Moines and Robert Stephenson (wife Mary Kay) of Drakesville; a daughter, Virginia Smith (husband Rex) of Des Moines; a sister, Mary Wallace of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
