Elmer Stephenson of Winterset Care Center South died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1980, at Madison County Memorial Hospital at the age of 85. He was a life-long resident of Madison County.
Born on April 1, 1895, in Madison County, he was the son of William Robert and Mary Rose Villier Stephenson. A U.S. Army veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was united in marriage to Bessie Lowe Hamack on June 1, 1957, at Bethany, Mo., and his wife survives him. Mr. Stephenson attended the First Christian Church.
Also surviving are a stepson, Everett Hamack of Bethany, Mo.; four grandchildren; a brother Bill of Winterset; and two sisters, Blanche Compton and Ida Ridout, both of Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank and John; and two sisters, Ella Hoisington and Mary Wilson.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Nagel officiating. Military graveside services were held at the Winterset Cemetery
