LENORA I. STEGENGA, Winterset

Lenora Irene Stegenga, 96, died of heart failure Jan. 24, 1999, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Lorimor United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Lorimor Cemetery.

Lenora Stegenga was born July 25, 1902, near Hills, Iowa, to Henry and O'Lena Slaughter. At age 10, she moved near Lorimor in Union County. She married Raymond E. Strain on April 21, 1921, at her parent's home in Lorimor. In 1969, she married Benny M. Holiday and in 1987, she married Waldo R. Stegenga of Lake Wales, Fla. A homemaker, Irene was a 78 year member of the Venus Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in Lorimor, a charter member of the Lorimor American Legion, a member of the Lorimor United Methodist Church, Past Matrons Club of Winterset, Winterset V.F.W. and the Irish Club

She is survived by two daughters, Joann C. Strain Kirkhart of Lorimor and Twyla A. Strain Walton of Doniphan, Mo.; one son, Bruce W. Strain of Norwalk; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines.
