Waldo R. Stegenga, 89, Winterset, Iowa, who died June 4, 1988, at the Des Moines General Hospital. Memorial services were held Wednesday afternoon at Hamilton's Funeral Home with Robert Haag officiating. His ashes will be interned in a family burial plot at Sarasota Memorial Park, Saratoga, Florida.
Born in grand Rapids, Michigan on October 19, 1898, he was the son of Jacob and Catharine Stegenga. He was married to Pearl Strain McCarty of Des Moines, Iowa on October 17, 1925. She died in 1972. He was married to Irene Strain Holiday on January 5, 1981 at Barton, Florida.
Mr. Stegena spent most of his life working as a design engineer for Arther G. McKee & Co. of Cleveland, Ohio. He won design awards for designing the Equitable Building in Des Moines, and was involved in designing the original underground train station in Atlanta,Georgia. His last position was chief engineer. He retired to Florida at the age of fifty five.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, from Winterset, three sons, Lee, from Ohio, Jerry, from Florida, Jack, from Georgia, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, both parents and a sister.
