J. E. Middleton

J. E. Middleton was born April 22, 1850 in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, and departed this life at the Osceola hospital April 29, 1924, age 74 years and 7 days. In 1867 he came to Ohio township with his father, he was a young man then about 18 years of age. This has ever since been his home until he was, after a brief illness, called to his reward.

On December 10, 1872 he was united in marriage with Miss Ella Creger. To this union God gave three children to bless their home, one son and two daughters.

Fifty-one years have they traveled life's pathway together enduring the hardships of pioneer life, the joys and sorrows always with brave heart and trusting in God and working for the Kingdom, for Mr. Middleton gave his life to Christ and the Church when a boy, uniting with the United Brethern church. On coming to Iowa he changed his membership to the Christian church, where he has ever been a loyal faithful member interested in every phase of the church work. He has sang in the choir, superintended the Sunday school, taught classes and been faithful in every place of trust. He was larger than any church he had a Kingdom vision and prayed and worked for a united church.

Uncle Evans, as he was called, was a kind loving companion and father, a good citizen, his friends are many. He will be missed in the church, and community and by his companion and children.

He leaves to mourn his departure a companion and two daughters, Mrs. Carrie E. Shanklin of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Maude Moorman of Truro, and two grandsons and one granddaughter, his son having preceeded him to the better world in 1897, besides those immediate relatives, a sister and many other relatives and friends. He has gone to his reward but his life will live on.

The funeral service was conducted on Thursday, May 1st at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. R. L. Raybourn and the remains laid to rest in the Young cemetery until the resurrection morning.
