Earl Meyer Dies at 83

A native of Madison County, born October 8, 1893, to Frederick H. and Alice Roderick Meyer, Earl A. Meyer, died Wednesday, February 16, 1977, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was 83 years of age.

The marriage of Earl Meyer and Eva Golightly of Earlham took place March 10, 1920. The couple had two children.

Mr. Meyer farmed for over 30 years in Madison County. He moved to Van Meter in 1934 where he was in the oil business with his brother, Alvin.

Earl Meyer retired in 1971 and moved to Des Moines. He was affiliated with the Winchester Evangelical Free Church.

Survivors include his wife, Eva; two daughters, Edna Stonehocker of Des Moines and Vera Eilders of West Des Moines; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services for Earl Meyer were conducted Saturday, February 19 from the United Methodist Church of Van Meter, Rev. A. Weigel of Reinbeck, Iowa and Rev. Ellis Andrews of Van Meter officiating. Interment was made at the Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
