Sister Frances Melroy, Davenport

Sister Frances Marie Melroy, CHM, 82, of Humility of Mary Center died Thurs., Oct 17 at Mercy Hospital, Davenport. Services were held October 19 at the Humility of Mary Center Chapel, Davenport.

Ellen Vernoica Melroy was born April 1, 1909 in Union Township, Madison County, to Francis Patrick and Ellen Teresa (Monoghan) Melroy. Sister Frances entered the Humility of Mary in 1925 and professed her vows in 1928. She attended Ottumwa Heights College, Ottumwa; the former St.Ambrose College, Davenport and received a nursing degree from St. Joseph's Hospital, Milwaukee, Wis. She taught at Georgetown, St. Vincent's Davenport; St. Alphonsus, Davenport; and St. Anthony's, Des Moines. She supervised at Christ Child Home, Des Moines, and was campus nurse at the former Marycrest College, Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her sister and four brothers.

Survivors include three brothers, including John Melroy of Winterset, and several nieces and nephews.
