Funeral services were held Thursday from the Congregational Christian church in Truro for Lewis E. Mease, a prominent citizen of that community, whose death occurred there March 7. The Rev. James Nicholson conducted the services. Burial was made in the Ebenezer cemetery.
Mr. Mease was 74 years of age at his death.
A son of Martin C. and Roberta Clifton Mease, he was born at Truro July 15, 1891. He graduated from Truro High School with the class of 1911. As a young man he engaged in farming. With the exception of three years near Linneus, Mo., his entire life was spent in Madison county.
He was appointed postmaster at Truro in 1933, and served for 23 years retiring in January 1957.
He was active in the Congregational-Christian church at Truro, serving as deacon, church treasurer and usher. He was a member of both the Masonic lodge and the Order of Eastern Star. He belonged to the Odd Fellows lodge for over 50 years, and was a secretary of the Woodman lodge.
Mr. Mease was married at Truro to Mabel Burd, who survives him. He also leaves a son, Ival Mease of Truro; a daughter, Mrs. Inez Dickinson of Des Moines; and a brother, Jay Mease of Truro. Three other brothers preceded him in death.
He also leaves seven grandchildren and two great granddaughters.

Lewis Edward Mease, the son of Martin C. and Roberta Clinton Mease, was born on a farm near Truro, July 15, 1891. He departed this life at his home, March 7, 1966, at the age of 74 years 7 months and 22 days.
He was united in marriage on June 20, 1917, to Mabel Burd at her home near East Peru, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Ival Martin of Truro, and Inez Martha Dickinson of Des Moines.
He was educated in the county schools of Madison County and was graduated from Truro High School in 1911. He farmed as a young man, and with the exception of three years near Linneus, Missouri, he spent his entire life in and around Truro.
During his lifetime, he was an active member of the Christian Congregational Church. He served as Deacon, Church Treasurer and as Church Usher. He was a member of both the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. He belonged to the Odd Fellows Lodge for over 50 years, and was Secretary of the Woodman Lodge until recently. He also served as Treasurer of the Truro School Board for a number of years and was appointed as Postmaster at Truro in 1933, and served for 23 years, retiring in January 1957.
Lewis was a kindly and friendly man, and was well liked by everyone who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mabel, son, Ival and daughter-in-law, Edith; his daughter, Inez, and son-in-law, Wayne. He leaves seven grandchildren, Sharon (Mrs. Bill Burns), Janet (Mrs. Ed Downs), and Martin Mease, Nina (Mrs. Marion Smith), and Gregg, Beth and Lori Dickinson. He leaves two great-granddaughters, Becki and Julie Burns. One brother Jay Mease of Truro survives him.
He also leaves to mourn his passing many other relatives and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Oren, Frankie and Gailen.
Services were held March 10 at the Christian Congregational Church in Truro. Rev. James Nicholson officiated and burial was in Ebenezer cemetery.
