RALPH O. MATHEWS OF ST. CHARLES DIES

Hanley Resident Succumbed March 4 at Age of 72 Years

Ralph O. Mathews, a resident of Hanley for many years, died at his home there Saturday, March 4 at the age of 72 years.

Mr. Mathews was a native of Champaign, Ill., where he was born Feb. 22, 1878, the son of George and Mary Mathews. Much of his early life was spent at Hopeville, Iowa, but he had lived in Madison county for many years.

He was married March 7, 1910 to Elizabeth Downs. They were the parents of six children.

Surviving are the wife; three daughters, Mrs. Catherine Addy of Winterset, Mrs. Ellagene Fuson of Des Moines and Mrs. Juanita Kellogg of Los Angeles, Calif; and three sons, Odell Mathews at home, John Mathews of St. Charles and Willis Mathews of Kingsport, Tenn.; a brother, Harley Mathews of Clinton and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 7 from the St.Charles Christian church, in charge of the Rev. E. L. Field. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
