Well-Known Winterset Business Woman Was 71 Years Of Age
Mrs. Loyd Mason, a well-known business woman in Winterset for many years, died Friday, July 28, at Memorial hospital here, after a brief illness. She was 71 years of age.
Mrs. Mason had been associated with her husband in the operation of the Winterset Motor company from 1925 until after the death of Mr. Mason in 1956.
She was born in Warren county, near St. Charles, on Aug. 8, 1895. She was the former Etta Ilo McCollum, daughter of James and Laura Hoff McCollum. She was married to Loyd Mason in Des Moines on Dec. 24, 1912. They made their home in Des Moines until 1925, when they purchased the Winterset Motor company and moved to this community.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset. She was active in the Lakeview Country Club and the American Rose society, and was a member of numerous social and civic organizations in this community.
Her only child, a daughter, died in infancy in 1918. Nearest surviving relatives are a sister, Mrs. Bertha Somers of Des Moines, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John E. Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
