JOYCE ANN EYERLY DIES

Infantile Paralysis Proves Fatal to Young Winterset Girl

Joyce Ann Eyerly, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rolla Eyerly of Winterset, died at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, Monday, August 16th, after a short illness with infantile paralysis. Joyce Ann, who was 9 years of age, became ill last Thursday, but her condition was not regarded as serious until Sunday when she was taken to the hospital in Des Moines. She became much worse, Monday afternoon and death came at 4:30 p.m.

Joyce Ann was born at Macksburg, October 22, 1933, and she and her parents resided there until they moved to Winterset in 1941. Last year, she had a serious illness, with a ruptured appendix, and was in the Winterset hospital from February to July. In spite of this illness, she made good progress in her studies, kept up with her class, and was a fourth grade student at the South Ward last year. She attended the Methodist Sunday school at Macksburg, and later here in Winterset.

The little girl is survived by her parents, Rolla and Fern Eyerly, one grandmother, Mrs. Ada Eyerly of Macksburg, one grandfather, E. O. Dorsey of Redfield, and a great grandmother, Mrs. Clara Eyerly. She also leaves a number of aunts and uncles, and many friends.

The Rev. W. A. Samp conducted the funeral services at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, Wednesday afternoon, August 18th, at 2 o'clock, and burial was made in the Macksburg cemetery.

Note: cemetery records indicate she was buried in the Moon cemetery near Macksburg.
