Russell Mapes, Slater

Russell Lee Mapes, 64, died of respiratory failure at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines on December 28, 1992. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thurs., Dec. 31 at Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Moran officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery.

Mr. Mapes was born November 29, 1928, in Winterset to George R. and Daisy (Harrison) Mapes. He married Viola DeBok on December 11, 1946 in Winterset. He lived in Slater most of his life and worked as a construction superintendent. He was a member of Construction Union Local #234.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother of Winterset; his wife of Slater; a son, Steven Eugene Mapes of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Pam Boryca of Winterset, and Judy Lee McMullen of Woodbridge, Va.; two brothers, Carl Mapes of Anaheim, Calif., and Robert Mapes of Des Moines; one sister, Martha Porter of State Center; and seven grandchildren.
