Edgar Lee Mahan, 82, of Van Meter died of a heart attack May 21, 2000, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Martensdale Community Church with Pastor Joel Andrus officiating. Burial will be at Montpelier Cemetery near Patterson. Visitiation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 24) at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset where the family will be present from 7-8 p.m.

Edgar Mahan was born Sept. 6, 1917 in Madison County to Lester and Augusta (Wilcox) Mahan. He married Evelyn Darlene Silliman on Oct. 9, 1937 in Polk County. Evelyn Darlene died Jan. 20, 1992. He later married Darlene Ruth Johnson on March 10, 1993 in Nashua. He was a resident of Madison County until 1993, when he moved from his farm north of Patterson to Van Meter. A retired farmer, Edgar was also a Shaklee Distributor. He attended Martensdale Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and two daughters.

He is survived by his wife Darlene Ruth of Winterset; two daughters, Beverly King (husband Gerald) of Lorimor and Cheri Michael (husband Jim) of Phoenix, Ariz; a stepdaughter, Denise Ross (husband Don) of Phoenix; a sister, Helen Jesse of Des Moines; and seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
