Philip Madonia, Winterset

Philip Madonia, 61, of Winterset died of cancer March 24, 2002, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 28, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Des Moines. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.

Philip Madonia was born Feb. 18, 1941 in Palermo, Sicily, Italy, to Frank and Providenzza Madonia. A resident of Winterset for 30 years, Philip retired as a maintenance supervisor for Winterset Care Center South in June of 2000.

He was preceded in death by his father and a grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Winterset; two sons, James Madonia and Robert Madonia, both of Des Moines; a daughter Linda Gillman of Des Moines; his mother, Providenzza Madonia of Des Moines; two sisters, Mary Goff of Ohio and Angela Maynard of Des Moines; two brothers, Frank Madonia and Joe Madonia, both of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Sunset Funeral Chapel in Des Moines.
