LYMAN LAFAYETTE STICKLER

Lyman Lafayette Stickler, son of Joseph and Harriet Stickler, was born in Indiana, Aug. 28, 1852 and died at his home in Des Moines, Oct. 26, 1923, aged 71 years, 2 months, 28 days. He came with his parents to Iowa, at the age of two years, settling in Madison county, near Winterset.

He grew to manhood in this vicinity and continued to live in Madison and Dallas counties until he moved to Des Moines in 1881. He was left motherless at the age of three years and was taken into the home of his grandparents where he lived until he was 18, being left fatherless at the age of 11.

On Dec. 18, 1873, he married Sarah Adaline Ford. To this union, eight sons were born, four dying in infancy. His wife died Oct. 25, 1894. He then moved back to Winterset, Nov. 9, 1895. He was married there to Eliza Jane Porter, March 29, 1896. To this union was born one daughter, Jessie Valeria, who died March 13th of the present year. He moved to Des Moines Oct. 1, 1922, where he lived until his death

He was always an honest and upright citizen, a good neighbor and a kind husband and father. His sickness has continued since February, 1922 but he has been a constant sufferer for the last six months.

There are left to mourn his death his wife, four sons: Charles, Walter and Harry, of Des Moines and Pearl of Valley Junction, and one step-daughter, Mrs. C. R. Serviss of Patterson; 10 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the M. E. church in Valley Junction by Rev. Arthur H. Adams. Burial in Jordan cemetery.
