CAREY PALMER OF FAIRVIEW PASSES

Funeral Services Held on Sunday from Methodist Church There

Carey Palmer, a well known resident of the Fairview neighborhood, died at the Winterset hospital last Thursday, at the age of 61 years. He had been confined to his bed for the past seven years, after several years of failing health.

Mr. Palmer was the son of Henry and Eva Palmer, and was born in Woodford county, Illinois, on March 22, 1880. When he was 9 years old he moved with his parents to Iowa. He was married here to Lulu Shaver on Dec. 30, 1903.

He had been a member of the Fairview Methodist church for many years. He spent a number of years as a resident of Earlham, and while there he served on the city council and became a member of the Odd Fellow and Masonic lodges.

He is survived by his wife; two brothers, S. D. Palmer of Des Moines and Lee Palmer of Winterset; and three sisters, Mrs. L. E. Paulin and Mrs. Maggie Finney of Des Moines, and Mrs. Melissa Finney of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Fairview church in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Cecil Latta, and burial was made in the cemetery there.

Carey Palmer, son of Henry and Eva Palmer was born in Woodford county, Illinois, March 22, 1880 and departed this life at the Winterset hospital, November 27 at the age of 61 years, eight months and five days. At the age of nine he moved with his parents to Iowa.

He had been in failing health for years but was only confined to his bed seven weeks. During his illness he bore his suffering and affliction with patience, never complaining.

On December 30, 1903, he was married to Lula Shaver.

He early learned the beautiful life having given his heart to God and united with the Fairview Methodist church in boyhood.

Through the years of sacrifice and service for others, he lived a devoted Christian life. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Masonic lodges and served on the city council during his stay in Earlham.

He was very devoted to his home and it always came first. He was a great lover of all the little children and everyone loved him that knew him. Those left to mourn his loss are his loving companion, two brothers, S. D. Palmer of Des Moines; Lee Palmer of Winterset, and three sisters, Mrs. L. E. Paullin and Maggie Finney of Des Moines, Melassie Finney of Winterset, sixteen nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Wanda Kelly of Van Meter sang “No Disappointment in Heaven”, and “When they Ring the Golden Bells.”

The pall bearers were: Clarence Wright, Marion Wright, Watt Barrows, Chas. Brittain, Bert Rinard and Albert Cade.
