STROKE FATAL TO MRS. HAMILTON

Winterset Resident, 80, Died Last Thursday After Brief Illness

Mrs. J. E. Hamilton, member of a prominent Winterset family, died last Thursday, March 14th, at her home here, after having been stricken with a cerebral hemmorrhage the preceding Saturday. She was 80 years of age.

Mrs. Hamilton was the former Katherine M. Dick, daughter of John P. and Sarah Dick, and was born in Henry county, on Oct. 15, 1865. The family moved to Madison county when she was a child, and she spent the remainder of her life here.

She was married to Joseph E. Hamilton on Oct. 14, 1888. They were the parents of three sons, one of whom, Ernest C. Hamilton, preceded her in death. Her husband died Aug. 23, 1941.

Mrs. Hamilton united with the Methodist church in early life, and at the time of her death was a member of that church in Winterset.

She is survived by two sons, Frank Hamilton of Harlan, and Maj. C. E. Hamilton of Iowa City who has been with the American army in Nurenburg, Germany. She also leaves three sisters, two brothers, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Major Hamilton had been granted an emergency leave by the Red Cross, but a cablegram received Sunday from Paris, stated that he had been detained and would not be able to reach Iowa City by plane until Thursday or Friday.

Funeral services were held Monday from Anderson's home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
