Alma McKinney, Winterset

Services for Alma McKinney, 87, Winterset, who died Feb. 27 at the Bethesda Care Center where she resided, were held Wednesday, March 1, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Schaull officiating. Burial was at the Blair Chapel Cemetery in Madison County.

Born at Farso, Denmark, on May 6, 1901, she was the daughter of Soren and Nelsina Jensen Petersen. She worked as a housekeeper at the county hospital and also was a cook in local restaurants.

She married Luther McKinney on March 1, 1922 at her home near St. Charles. She spent most of her lifetime in Madison County after coming to the U.S. in 1903. She moved to Madison County in 1917 and was a member of the First Baptist Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include sons, Earl and wife Norma of Indianola, Paul and wife Betty of Winterset, and Larry and wife Darlene of West Des Moines; a daughter, Elsie and husband Birtie of Adel; 20 grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and a sister.
