Former Madison County Man Succumbs After Brief Illness
William L. McKenzie, who spent most of his life as a farmer in Madison and Warren counties, died last Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines after a brief illness. He was 71 years of age.
Born near Lacona on Jan. 25, 1878, he was the son of John and Anna McLennan McKenzie. He graduated from the Lacona high school and attended Highland Park college in Des Moines. As a young man he taught school in Warren county, brfore turning to farming. He moved to Des Moines in 1937 and was an employee of the Iowa Tax commission for eight years before retiring last April.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie M. McKenzie; a son, Malcolm McKenzie; three sisters, Mrs. Eugenia Stour and Mrs. Katheryne Marshall of Des Moines and Mrs. Mabel McLees of Winterset.
Funeral services were conducted from the Hamilton funeral home in Des Moines, in charge of the Revs. Yeates, McClelland and Scott of the Westminster U. P. church in Des Moines. Burial was made in Highland Memorial gardens in Des Moines.
