Elmer McKee, Winterset

Services for Elmer McKee, 84, Winterset, who died April 21 at his residence, were held Wed., April 25 at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Nova Wells officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born in Madison County on May 31, 1905, he was the son of Frank and Cora Banks McKee. A retired farmer, he was a lifetime resident of the county and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW post of Winterset.

Included in the survivors is Clive McKee, a brother of Tujunga, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Elmer's political interest began as the finance chairman of the Republican party for Sac County in 1957. This led to his 10-year career in the House and Senate of the Iowa General Assembly.

In 1971, he was nominated and elected as the first SCORE/ACE director for the ACTION Agency in Washington, D.C. He was then appointed in 1975 as the state director for ACTION in Lincoln, Neb.

He is survived by his wife, Beth; his two daughters, Mary Beth Williams of Garden City, Kansas and Martha Jane Lange of Guffey, Colorado; his son-in-law Robert A. Williams; his two grandsons, Nathan and Colin; a brother, Jean of Sac City; and two sisters, LaVera Criss of Sac City and Marian Shepherd of Venice, Florida.
