Alberta B. McFarland, 78, of Gowrie died July 15, 1999 at Trinity Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 19, at the United Methodist Church in Gowrie with the Rev. Keith Pals officiating. Burial was at Gowrie Township Cemetery.

Alberta Porter was born Jan. 21, 1921 to Boyd and Sadie (Davis) Porter of Truro. She graduated from St. Charles High School in 1940. She worked with her mother in a cafe in Gowrie. In 1941, she married Orin "Jiggs" McFarland. They operated the Modern Dry Cleaners for 18 years. Alberta was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gowrie, the United Methodist Women's Club and the Gowrie Golf and Country Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter and one sister.

She is survived by a son, Ed McFarland of Torrance, Calif.; a daughter, Vickie Toms of Lake View; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Palmer and Sons Funeral Home in Gowrie.
