Funeral Services Will Be Held This Thursday at Indianola
Ray Matheny, bookkeeper at the Mills Motor company in Winterset for the past 13 years, was fatally injured Sunday evening in an automobile accident near Knoxville. He was 44 years of age.
Mr. Matheny, accompanied by his wife, were returning to their home in Indianola from Cedar Rapids, where they had been visiting relatives. The accident occurred on highway No. 2, seven miles west of Knoxville.
Mrs. Matheny was seriously injured but is expected to recover. She said that as the car was going around a curve, it swayed, and "I thought it was going off the road and I think I grabbed the steering wheel."
The automobile knocked down an 18-inch post, tore down part of a fence, struck a tree and the front porch of a house there before rolling over.
Mr. Matheny was taken to the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines with head injuries which caused his death there that night.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday from the Overton funeral home in Indianola at 10:30 a.m.
