MRS. MARY BIVIN DIES AT 99 YEARS

Would Have Reached Age of 100 Had She Lived Until August 5

Death came to Mrs. Mary Bivin of Winterset Monday, ending a life-time that within about two months would have spanned the past century.

Mrs. Bivin, who was Madison county's oldest resident, would have been 100 years of age had she lived until Aug. 5. Her advanced years and excellent health had attracted considerable attention during the past decade. Her death came suddenly as the result of a stroke. Until this occurred, she had enjoyed remarkable mental and physical vigor for her years. Until the last she maintained a lively interest in the world through her radio and the newspapers.

Mrs. Bivin was born in Ohio on Aug. 5, 1841. She was the daughter of a soldier, and the wife of a soldier. Her father, J. B. Huff, served against the British and Indians in the War of 1812, enlisting from Virginia. Her husband, Joseph Bivin, was a Civil War veteran, serving three years with the 36th Iowa Infantry regiment.

Mrs. Bivin came to Iowa with her parents in a covered wagon as a small child. They settled near Bloomfield in Davis county. She was married to Joseph Bivin in 1866 and they came to Monroe township in this county in 1871. Her home had been in this county since that time. Mr. Bivin died in 1916.

Near surviving relatives are her sons, A. T. Bivin of Keokuk and William Bivin of Randle, Wash. One son, Thomas, died three years ago. She also leaves a grandson, Joseph Bivin of Randle; two granddaughters, Mrs. J. W. Conrad of Keokuk and Mrs. W. W. Turner of Lincoln, Neb., and two great grandsons.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon frm Anderson's home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. W. A. Samp of the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
