OBITUARY

George Thomas Burcombe was born April 21, 1872 in Henry county, Illinois, to Marion and George Burcombe. In 1879 he came to Iowa with his parents and settled in Madison county near Earlham, Iowa. After the death of his father he and his mother moved to Des Moines in 1900. He was married to Helene Sternberg March 8, 1904.To this union were born four children, George, Marjorie, Ralph and Mildred. In 1915 he returned to his old home near Earlham with his family where he resided until three years ago at which time he moved east of Winterset.

He is survived by his widow, four children; George of Rock Island, Illinois; Marjorie of Des Moines and Ralph and Mildred still at home, a sister Mrs. H. B. Dorrell of Des Moines, and two grandchildren in addition to other relatives and friends.

He has been a member of the Methodist church since his youth and was a member of the Penn Center Methodist church at the time of his death.

George T. Burcombe died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, early Wednesday morning, November 23, from a cerebral hemorrhage suffered two weeks previous. Short funeral services were held at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines followed by services at the Penn Center church with burial in the Penn Center cemetery.

Mr. Burcombe lived for many years on a farm south of Earlham where his father had settled after bringing his family to Iowa. He left the farm for a period after the death of his father and moved to Des Moines with his mother. While in Des Moines he served nine years as a street car motorman followed by seven years on the police department. In 1915 he returned to the farm with his wife and children and lived there until three years ago when he moved to a farm east of Winterset.

Mr. Burcombe is survived by his widow, four children, George, of Rock Island, Illinois, Marjorie, of Des Moines, and Ralph and Mildred, still at home; a sister, Mrs. H. B. Dorrell, of Des Moines, and two grandchildren, Peter and Nancy Kay of Rock Island.

Pallbearers were three friends with whom he worked on the street car and three friends associated with him on the police department.
