EDITH E. BUNNELL

Edith Emily Renshaw, daughter of Sylvester and Sarah Hazen Renshaw was born on September 7, 1875, the fourth of six children. On October 9, 1962 at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 2 days, she passed away at the home of her daughter, Helen.

Her entire life was spent in Madison County. She was born at the farm home of her parents six miles south of Van Meter. It was here that she grew up and was united in marriage March 5, 1902 to John C. Bunnell. Her son C. Howard was born on this farm a year later.

After two years, her father sold this farm and purchased the present Bill Ackerman farm where they moved in 1903. It was here that their daughter, Helen G., was born in 1904. The following year they bought farm land west of Earlham where they lived until John’s death, when Edith moved to Earlham.

She was a member of the Earlham Methodist church and Silver Circle Sunday School class which she attended faithfully until her health would not permit.

Since her health failed in 1961, she has been at the home of her daughter. Thirty of her friends helped her celebrate her 87th birthday in September. She was able to remain relatively active until the very last.

She was a loving mother and devoted her time to her children and grandchildren. She also took nephews; Marvyn and Quentin Renshaw into her home after the death of their mother.

Her garden and flowers were a source of great pleasure; and many Earlham families will remember the many hours she spent with their children.

Surviving are: he son C. Howard of Dexter; daughter Helen of Earlham; four grandchildren; John Bunnell of Dexter, Betty Dwigans of Kansas City, Dean Grewell of Des Moines, Jean Fegan at home; nine great grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; and other relatives and a host of friends.
