Former Jackson and Penn Township Farmer Was 87 Years Old
Charles Barr died Christmas morning at his home in Dexter. Funeral services were conducted from the Dexter Presbyterian church at 1:30 today.
Mr. Barr who was past 87, came to this county some 60 years ago. He farmed in Jackson and in Penn townships until a few years ago when he retired from active work and moved to Dexter.
Surviving members of his family are three sons, Melvin of Dexter, Ray, living in Texas, and Earl of Lemon, S. Dak. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Inez Shaw and Mrs. Dorothy Compton of Stuart.
Mrs. Barr, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Moore, passed away during the past year.

Page 2, Column 5 & 6Chas. D. Barr, son of Joseph W. and Eliza Barr, was born Dec. 17, 1857, near Mansfield, Ohio, and departed this life at Dexter, Iowa, Dec. 25, 1944, age 87 years and 8 days. He was the second child of a family of eight children, all of whom have preceded him in death except one sister, Mrs. Cora McCalman, of Goodland, Kansas. At the age of 16 he moved to Madison County, Iowa, where he spent the greater part of his life.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church and as long as his health permitted he always took an active part in church and community affairs.
On Feb. 27, 1883, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth B. Moore, who preceded him in death Sept. 13, 1943. To this union six children were born: Joseph Lee, who passed away in 1910; D. Melvin of Dexter, Earl M., of Lemmon, S. D.; Ray R. of Dalhart, Texas; Inez Shaw and Dortha Compton of Stuart. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
Services were conducted by Rev. Wadding at the Presbyterian church in Dexter Dec. 27, 1944. Interment in the Dexter cemetery. The casketbearers were grandsons: Lee, Ivan, Hoyt, Max, Dwight Barr and Edward Shaw. Music was furnished by a ladies quartet of the Presbyterian church, Flora Kramer, Mrs. Wadding, Lillian Pohle and Nadine Sheppard. Lena Selse accompanied.

Moore and Mrs. Ross Moore and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Moore and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert--- of Earlham; Mr. and Mrs. ---Stewart, Mrs. Roy Stewart of Van Meter; Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Barr, and Mrs. John Sawhill, of Des Moines; Mrs. Anna Barr, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Barr, Mrs. Bessie--, and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Cox, of Winterset.
