BRICKER FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY

Mel Bricker, Longtime Resident of Community, died at His Home In Earlham Last Friday.

Augustus Melvin Bricker died at his home in Earlham Friday, February 8, Mr. Bricker has lived in this community for many years and he leaves many friends and relatives. He was nearly eighty years old.

The funeral service conducted by Rev. L. G. Wolfe, was held in the Methodist church, February 12 at two o’clock. Interment was made in the Penn Center cemetery.

OBITUARY

Augusts (Augustus) Melvin Bricker was the first son of nine children born to David and Emerilla Bricker in Knox county, Oneida, Illinois. When fifteen years of age he came with his family to Madison county, Iowa, to live on the old Richey Ranch in Penn township. Later he made his home in Dexter and then Greenfield; and eventually he returned to Madison county to farm.

On April 30, 1882 he was united in marriage to Ella Taylor, and for nearly fifty-three years they lived happily together, always in the vicinity of Earlham. Seven children were born to bless their ties, five of whom are living. Gertrude and Clarence having preceded him in death.

It was on July 15, 1855 that Augustus Melvin Bricker entered this world, and his soul passed on to eternity on February 8, 1935. He leaves behind many friends and relatives, all of whom will remember him for his kindly deeds and quietly pleasant nature. Those most intimate are: his wife, Mary Ella; his sons Ralph A., Walter M., and Charles L., and their families, all of Earlham; his son, Earl E. and family of Winterset; and his son Herschel L., or (of) Orono, Maine; and two sisters, Mary Butler of Thayer, and Eva Brown of Greenfield.
