Frank Boyd, 64 farmer, southwest of Earlham who was struck by No. 14 at the Chestnut Street crossing near the C. R. I. & P. station here last Thursday evening, died at Winterset hospital a few minutes after he had been rushed there in the Welch ambulance in an effort to save his life. H. E. Carver, doctor in attendance on Boyd, said that the man died of an internal hemorrhage, through no broken ribs or other body injuries could be found aside form (from) a deep skull fracture.

The decision to take Boyd to Winterset, instead of Des Moines, as stated last week, was made after the ambulance had left Earlham and it became apparent that the injured man had only a short time to live.

Boyd, who had never married, had spent most of his life in this community, with the exception of seven years near Burns, Wyoming. His parents had at one time lived in Des Moines, and Boyd had once lived in Adair County. For the past several years he had occupied and farmed a part of the Joe Ester farm southwest of Earlham. Two brothers, Bert and Frank and a widowed sister, Mrs. Ida Cornick, made their home with him. He also cared for the son of a deceased brother.

The body was taken to Tidrick’s Funeral Home where services were held Monday afternoon with Rev. R. C. Culley, pastor of the first Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial was at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines beside the remains of his father and mother. A short service at the grave was conducted by Rev. Fulton.
