PETER MARTIN OHRT

Peter Martin Ohrt, son of Dethlef and Martha Ohrt, was born September 10, 1885 on a farm in Madison county and passed away at his home in Dexter December 15, 1966 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 5 days. He spent his entire life in Penn township until he retired from farming in 1959 and moved to Dexter.

For many years he has been a faithful member of the Dexter Methodist church where he served on the official board. He was also a long time member of Mt. Tabor Lodge No. 293, AF & AM, of which he was a Past Master and Fealty Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

On June 12, 1912 he was united in marriage to Era Maude Payton. To this union were born three children: Payton D., who died at birth, Betty M. and Paul M.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, his parents, three sisters, one brother and one granddaughter.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, one daughter (Betty) and her husband, Charles Lee; one son (Paul) and his wife Karen, all of Dexter; three grandchildren, Karla, Michael and Gregory Ohrt of Des Moines, 11 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

His passing will leave a place that can never be filled. The regrets of those left behind is not that he has gone to the rest he so justly deserved, but a regret that they failed to express and show the full gratitude and appreciation which they so keenly felt.
