OPAL HUDDLESON, Winterset

Opal Arlena (Hartman) Huddleson, 95, died Sept. 5, 2006, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services for both Opal and her daughter, Mary Lou Johnson, who died Sept. 6, 2006, were held Monday, Sept. 11, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastor Bill Branson and the Rev. Robert Cooper officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Opal Huddleson was born June 13, 1911, in Madison County to Joseph O. and Margaret D. (Thornburg) Cooper. In 1929, she married Arthur W. Hartman. Mr. Hartman died in 1962. On June 19, 1970, she married Otis Huddleson in Winterset. Opal worked part time for most of her life. She also was a custodian at Winterset City Hall for over 20 years, retiring at the age of 89. A longtime resident of Winterset, she was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by both husbands; one daughter, Viola Younker; four brothers — George, Roy, Charles and Henry Cooper; and five sisters — Gertrude Kline, Helen Faux, Stella Lane, Elva Cooper and Laura Cooper.

She is survived by two sons, Dale L. Hartman and Steven A. Hartman, both of Winterset; and nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Opal’s daughter, Mary Lou Johnson, survived her by one day.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Winterset Care Center South Activity Fund, Middle River Hospice or Madison County Home Health Care.
