DAVID HOWELL OF CRAWFORD DIES

Long-Time Resident Passes Saturday at Home Near Patterson

David Howell, well-known Crawford township resident, died at his home northeast of Patterson last Saturday afternoon, Nov. 28th after a short illness. Mr. Howell who was 84 years of age, became ill Thanksgiving day with heart trouble, and died two days later.

Mr. Howell came to this county with his parents, Nelson and Margaret Howell when he was seven years of age and his home had since been the farm where he died. He was born in Astoria, Ill., and was one of a family of nine children. He is survived by his sister, Miss Ida Howell, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Rev. J. A. Walls conducted his funeral services at the home Monday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. and burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery.

DAVID HOWELL DIED AT AGE 84 IN PERU HOME

David Howell, 84 year old resident of Peru, died at his home there Saturday, Nov. 28.

Funeral services were held the following Monday with Rev. James Walls, pastor of the Patterson Methodist church in charge. Interment was made in the Patterson cemetery.

David Howell was born Oct. 18, 1858, the son of Nelson and Margaret Howell, at Astoria, Illinois. He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of seven years. After living a few months in Des Moines the family moved to the present homestead in Madison county.

When a young man he went to Kansas with his brothers where he purchased a homestead. He remained there two years and returned to his home in Iowa where he lived until his death.

He is survived by his sister, Ida, and numerous nephews and nieces. Six brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
